Friends-
I don't know how it has been this long since I gave anyone updates about my life. I actually don't know how long it has been. Whatever- this is not important; I am here now!
I do feel I should warn any readers of my mixed motives for coming here. I'm writing one of those classic all-night college papers. I mostly just needed a break from my great classical study music to listen to something a little more upbeat... Journey, perhaps? Haha. I was just thinking to myself how I think I will really enjoy having this part of my life behind me. As much as college is totally a blessing (and one that I'm sure we all appreciate much more after it's gone), there are definitely some things I won't mind leaving- like all night papers. Case in point: South Bend weather. The story goes that some (can you say rather evil?) government official, when approached by the Holy Cross priests from France was like "oh yes, you can take Northern Indiana" and then the crazy Fr. Sorin got here in November for crying out loud and was all excited-like and decided "this would be a great place for a SCHOOL!!". He couldn't even see one of the lakes because it was frozen and covered in snow, so he misnamed the school (our lady of the lake instead of lakes). I mean, this guy must have been nuts, that's all I'm saying.
Wow, that was seriously random Notre Dame trivia. And I'm not really sure how Fr. Sorin ended up here. But he did like it, which is still weird. Well, the most un-exciting part of my life is a serious lack of job for my post-grad self. I don't know why people are not simply flocking to employ me. Sheesh.
My mom is an accountant. It's April 9th. I hope you all have remembered to pay your taxes. What about the ridiculously high taxes on our summer stipends? That Sean Sanford sure is a wily character. Sometimes I sort of wonder how he convinces people to work for him. He must have some irresistible charm or something. Probably that 'or something'.
I also have not been back to my dorm room in over 16 hours, but have been practicing my nomad skills in the library, student union, dining halls, etc. That's a long time. Maybe I can make it until tomorrow morning and then I will officially be awesome.
How about a bit of politics? President Obama is coming to speak at our graduation. Normal reaction: hey, that's pretty cool- he's the President and you get to see him in person. Reaction of some crazy people: YOU ARE A HEATHEN! YOUR SCHOOL IS THE EPITOME OF EVIL! HOW COULD YOU INVITE THE ANTI-CHRIST TO A CATHOLIC SCHOOL?! Honestly, someone wrote into our school paper today calling Obama the anti-Christ. I think this might be a little... well a lot of things, none of which are very good.
Well, I think I have accomplished my goal of listening to a bit of rock music, taking a paper break, and happily feeling like I let a bit of the random beauty that makes up my life show through. Remember: life is all about the random beauty. It's true. Embrace it, as Gloria would say. Peace and love and good wishes to all.
~Michelle (the 2am version, full of random beauty) :)
