Well hello all! I hope everyone is doing well! I'm sure everybody's been busy with the start of the school year and everything. I saw that Notre Dame won their home opener yesterday (props to your school, Shelly), University of Georgia is dominating the SEC (Props to your school, Yoon), and SJU is still ridiculously awesome (props to...well, my school). I've been at SJU now for about three weeks and I have this weird sense of responsibility now. As soon as I moved in I was thrown into the crazy freshman service orientation known as the Philadelphia Service Immersion Program (PSIP as it is fondly called). Think of it as Justiceworx light for incoming college freshman: we did service, we reflected, and Ashley Wilson was there! It was a great time for me although there were some points I felt like could have been organized better. There was a point where I missed you guys so much because we ran so well together in the planning and leading process. PSIP was certainly downgrades, but I did meet some awesome freshman and I bonded with some cool people at SJU.
The day after PSIP finished I celebrated my 1 year anniversary with Christine. It was really sweet. We spent the day together watching friends and cuddling like nobody's business, and then I took her out for a nice dinner in Philly. She doesn't know it yet, but I bought her a neckalace from Tiffany's. She'll be getting it tomorrow, and then her jaw will drop. She's not that hard to please, which isn't a bad thing for me or for her. She doesn't seem to mind the simple things: flowers, dinner, etc. So this neckalace is going to make her faint, I think. Not that it's a $500 dollar neckalace from Tiffany's or anything like that, but still. It is pretty nice, and I'm excited to give it to her. She gave me a new cross to wear, and for some reason when I was first looking at it I just felt this sense of awe. It's a silver cross that she had custom made at a jewlery shop in Philly. I don't know what it was, but I just felt like the cross was my cross, the only one like it in the world. And then I thought to myself that she really does love me because she knows how much my faith means to me. It was an awesome gift to recieve and every moment I spend with her is blessed.
As far as justice things are concerned, this tuesday at the activities fair (where freshman sign up for different clubs and groups, etc.), SJU Students for Workers' Rights will be making a tag flag by using the tags on the back of people's shirts. Whoever signs up for the mailing list will be part of the tag flag. It's a nice activity for the students because it makes them a part of something and they get to learn a small thing about solidarity in that by giving up their tags, they're giving up at least one piece of clothing that is made in a sweatshop, which is a start. Hopefully this'll draw people in. Apparently they have a shirt at the book store that's made out of recycled materials, a shirt that was falsley attributed to what I'm trying to do on campus (my vice president is over-zealous, so she was excited). Hopefully the wheels will start turning this year for the campus to be sweat free within the next two.
I think that's all from here. I hope all of you are doing well, you all are always in my thoughts and prayers, and I miss you like redonkulous! As a Jesuit in my school says often, "Speak the truth. Shame the devil."
Love, Luck and Lollipops!
