Winter in another hemisphere

I honestly believe I write on this thing all the time and then am really disappointed when I discover otherwise. Really, I don't really know how this happens.

Anyway, it's summer again finally! Which is great! And also means that we've known each other for an entire year. Well, technically a little more because it's July already, but there you go. I love it when it gets warm outside and getting dressed in the morning doesn't take 20 minutes worth of clothes layering and you can eat ice cream outside and watch the sun set really late. These things make me happy.

Well, what's new in my life, you might ask? Yesterday I flew to New York and am currently in orientation for the Salesian Lay Missioner program. Well, right now we're having free time. Anyway, I just got word a couple weeks ago that I'll be going to INDIA with them, working at a school/home for deaf kids. According to one of the girls that's at the site now working, you need two qualifications: 1. ability to learn Indian sign language to communicate and 2. strong legs to squat over the toilet. I thought that was kind of a funny anecdote. Hopefully I possess both these qualifications (I'll let you know for sure later) and will be a riotous success there. I was just looking at plane tickets, which was really cool. I will likely have a layover in Calcutta, which just reminds me of good old Mother T, which is fantastic. At any rate, there's a good chance I'll make it down to Jersey from here and pay a visit to anyone still around there. Woo hoo! Mostly, orientation is kind of weird because obviously these people don't know me yet and haven't figured out how to react to my weird sense of humor, talking under my breath, etc. Once they get it, though, I'm sure all will be well in Salesian Mission orientation field. They're a great group (at least, as far as I can tell). They're pretty ridiculously unorganized, which just reminds me of the good old days of Sean and Brian and Widian and etc. What's a schedule for if not to be changed at whim? Actually I guess I can't really include Widian in there, because she liked schedules. Also, I like pronouncing 'schedules' like the Brits in my head, which involves a silent 'c', so it's more like 'shhedules'. Random fun fact. Now you know how they do it there, and you never know when that knowledge might come in handy.

Somehow I always seem to be posting late at night, which leads me to rather weird posts. Either that or I'm just kind of psycho (also a legit possibility). But at any rate, it is past time for me to sleep. Hope life is well for all of you. Keep us updated on your lives and thoughts, and if you run across any of those wily characters who don't post on the blog, feel free to tell us about them too.

Peace-y justice-y goodness,
Michelle :)

hey, so is emily growney there at orientation with you? because it's a small world after all.

Prayer-haggling time! I'll pray for you if you pray for me. That will be an awesome experience, you're going to work wonders.

Wow, that got a lot of comments really fast. You all are funny.

Mop- waiting for Joel. Oh, the world is at peace....The Salesians are slowly catching on to my comments. We had to sit through a really boring thing today and I was definitely muttering to the girl next to me. Hehe.

Beard, I don't know if I can accept that bargain. Can we introduce some fractions in there? Two of your prayers for one of mine maybe? That would probably be good.

And the world is about to get smaller than you thought- Emily and I are actually going to the same site. We'll be roommates halfway across the world. When I friended her on facebook and saw that we had one friend in common, it was funny and I laughed. And since we're spending 19 hours together on a plane, we'll probably have to talk about you a lot. Only kidding. You're safe. :)
